Choices (United Kingdom)

By Stacey Gregg

We are spoilt for choice in the UK. The choice to have a child and the choice not to. Award-winning Northern Irish playwright Stacey Gregg guides us through two intimate stories of women faced with the complex challenges that reproductive choice can uncover.

Is the illusion of choice in the UK putting increased pressure on state medical resources – from fertility treatment to age-related complications? Should we be able to simply pay to control when and how we have children?

Choices explores whether the perception of control within a capitalist framework is at odds with the unpredictability of reproduction and the effects of when that choice is controlled by the state.

“It feels dangerous sometimes, to tell our stories.”
