About CMNH

The Centre for Maternal and Newborn Health (CMNH) at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine is internationally recognised as a global leader in implementation research in maternal and newborn health.

Our vision is to end preventable maternal deaths, stillbirths and neonatal deaths and improve the health of mothers and babies in low- and middle-income countries.

We generate and share robust evidence for what, why and how maternal and newborn health interventions work in ‘real-life’ settings, and facilitate its translation into policy and practice.

Our multi-national, multi-disciplinary team has unique expertise in designing, implementing and evaluating interventions across the continuum of care, adapting these to the country- and context-specific settings and working in genuine partnership with governments, academic institutions, UN organisations, donors and civil societies.

We have extensive experience working in low- and middle-income countries. We are actively working in 18 countries across Africa, Asia and Europe, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Chad, Ghana, India, Kenya, Malawi, The Maldives, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Zimbabwe.

CMNH has many international partnerships. We are:
